Swallows 2016
Swallows Back: He arrived on Thursday 14th April, she kept him waiting until Saturday 30th April, it was a joyful reunion
Nest: They started building new nest on usual shelf in workshop on
Tuesday 3rd May
Laying: 5 eggs laid between Wednesday 11th & Sunday 15th May
Brooding: She started sitting on eggs Sunday 15th May
Hatching: 5 chicks hatched between Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th May, both parents busy feeding since then
Hazard: Jay in workshop Thursday 9th June, no casualties
Fledging: 1st chick out to wire on Friday 17th June, other 4 all fledged during day. Had run of workshop from then until all left to venture outside on Monday 20th June. 5 chicks coming and going, returning to workshop at nightimes, bit disruptive to woodturning, 2 shown sitting on respirator mask!
Shared Space: Robin & swallow chicks with the run of the workshop, keeping each
other company on 22nd June. All chicks have yellow rim around beak to encourage adults to feed them.

Second Brood: Laid 6 eggs in same nest by Monday 4th July when she started
brooding.
Nest: 6 chicks hatched between Sunday 17th & Tuesday 19th July. Both
parents back on feeding duties. Photos taken 26th July.
Fledging: All 6 fledged by Monday 8th August while we were away.
Out & About: Gathering on the wire, photo taken 19th August.
Gone: Joining others from the farm, then off to Africa, mid-September
likely, photo taken 11th September.
